Capybaras usually get along well with other animals, as Garibaldi Rous demonstrates by letting his rabbit co-pets eat his food. He does chase them sometimes though. You can see how scared they are.
I’ve been taking a lot of photos of Garibaldi Rous sleeping so that I can write a blog post about it but other things keep coming up. So here’s one Gari sleeping photo.
This is still part of my series on Caplin Rous leading up to what would have been his 5th birthday on July 10th. Caplin would do anything for a popsicle. In this photo he is standing on a step-stool on his hind legs. He was so smart and so willing, he could learn to do anything in about 15 minutes.
I am paralleling the photos here with more extensive posts about Caplin Rous on my Capybara Madness blog. Please go there if you would like to see more images of him and learn more about him.
When the pool is clean, I try to take as many photos of Gari swimming as possible. He is so cute & funny when he’s in the water!
Capybaras are very strong and they can be stubborn. In this photo, my friend Ashutosh Moghe (I’m putting his full name here to embarrass him), finds that he is not strong enough to wrangle Garibaldi Rous. If you think about it, Ashu weighs, let’s say, 145 lbs and Gari weighs 115 lbs. But Ashu is all stretched out and balanced precariously on two legs whereas Gari is neatly compact, with a very low center of gravity and four very strong legs on large paws. Plus, Ashu is just weak.
This is Garibaldi Rous’ mother and three-week-old full sister. The soil where they live stains their fur red. His sister is a little trouble-maker. She escapes from her enclosure and she bites. Strange since Gari is so meek and peaceful.
Excuse me. What do I have to do to get a treat around here?
When it’s too hard to sit up…
